Light Night
Light Night Leeds is a great event, but I don't find it easy. There are so many different types of events spread across the City that it can be hard to navigate your route. I like the fact you have to "work" as a visitor, get out into the City and find things, that's exciting, but I always feel like I am missing something. I love the fact Light Night changes the feel and atmosphere of the city, and makes it less threatening late at night. The highlight for me was walking down Briggate well after "last orders" and finding a vintage tea room serving from a silver caravan. I sat at a table had a cup of tea and cake and chatted away with some great folk. At that time of night, I am used to walking down Briggate, keeping my eyes to the floor and tripping over burgers. Light Night presents a possibility of how the city centre could be. It generates ideas about how we might make better use of the City Centre. I hope it continues. I would like to see a focal point of some sort to draw all the events together. I am thinking a carnival like procession or fireworks or concert. I don't know, just something to draw it all together as a night. This has been mentioned on twitter a few times and I agree - FOOD. Street vendors/ stalls/markets the city is full of cold hungry people walking all over the city please someone collaborate with the independent food producers and feed us!! Starbucks was open late so please let's catch up.
